How much would it cost to travel to St. Petersburg Russia?
Not planning a trip anytime soon, just super curious. And if it helps, I live in TX

My girlfriend and husband visited St. Petersburg last year with an american tour company (TUC) they also visited Helsinki and Moskau. The trip was first class, 5* hotels etc. - cost very expensive. It was their best ever.

Depending on the season, your roundtrip fare will be anywhere from $700 to $2000. As for accommodations, it also depends where you stay, etc. Costs are comparable to the costs in the U.K.

Roughly: Airfare about $1800usd from U.S. $900usd from Europe Rooms w/breakfast $200usd a night Excursions/Museums. $50usd per day per person Food, $60usd per day per person Nightlife, $100usd per day per person Taxis $10 per one way trip This is about right for a comfortable trip, if you prefer spending more it will be more than welcome

st. petersburg travel?
i'm travelling to st. petersburg russia in december with my friend. For people who have been there, what hostel or cheap hotel would you recommend? We want good location (preferably near nightlife and/or places of interest), a safe hostel/hotel, and reasonably priced (although we would rather pay more money for a nicely located hostel, rather than less money for bad location). Any help would be appreciated, especially from girls and young people who have been there (we're both 21) also, how difficult is it to get by without a guide? I'm somewhat worried that few people there speak english, but we're both poor college students and a guide is probably too expensive for us

It could be difficult. St. Petersburg is not cheap place. You would not be able to find cheap hostel(or hotel) in nice, save area. It does not work this way. Search Internet travel sections to see what different people suggesting. Get some names, locations and send me private email. I have a cousine, she lives in St.Petersburg. She may be will be able to help or point to right direction.

You really should have entered how much you want to spend a night. For some people $40 is cheap, others $100 a night is cheap and so on. I know an excellent place with prime location for about $100 a night.

I've stayed at Nord Hostel a few times. Its about as central as you can get and only a couple of years old. You will be able to get around without a guide. Don't expect very many people to be able to speak English. In Your Pocket have an excellent guide book on St Petersburg which is updated regularly.

I mite be going to Helsinki Finland in May/June, does any one know about train, ferry, or plane travel between the two, how much a ticket is and how long it'll take?

Finnair flies to St. Petersburg from Helsinki, as does Aeroflot. The plane ride is just under an hour. Now, just bear in mind that if you are a US/EU citizen, you need to get a Russian visa months in advance.

'Allegro' speed train makes it in 3.5 hours between Helsinki and St.Pete. Tickets EUR 134 for the 1st class, EUR 84 for the 2nd class (one-way!). http://eng.rzd.ru/isvp/public/rzdeng?STRUCTURE_ID=4144 Direct airflights (return ticket): Rossiya EUR 110-140, Finnair EUR 170 The flight is below 1 hour You will need a pre-arranged Russian visa to enter.

Travel between Helsinki and St.Petersburg is subject to different requirements than Russia in general. Currently if you travel by a ferry or train, you can spend 72 hours in St.Petersburg WITHOUT A VISA. This can save you much time and $200. Some details of this program are in flux, so check with the Russian consulate in Helsinki shortly before buying a ticket

What is the best way to travel from St.Petersburg to Helsinki?
I am going to St. Petersburg in September and got a dual-entry visa with the hope of visiting Helsinki. The only problem is I am not sure of the best way to get there. I am trying to save time and, for that reason, the only two options are train and plane. Does anyone have suggestions and, if so, what is the cheapest way to go? Any suggestions for nice accomodations (not expensive, but not sketchy) in Helsinki? Thanks!

The easiest and cheapest way to get to Helsinki from St.P is by bus. It doesn't take that long. If you go on a regular week day there will be no traffic at the border and it will take 5-6 hours max. For staying in Helsinki I recommend President Hotel. It's a 3-star hotel located in the very city centre. It's clean and nice. The staff is very helpful.

Finnair has 3 flights daily between the two cities. Flight times are less than 1 hour, and cost as little as 49 Euros each way. When I went in October the flight had only a fraction of its capacity, so passport control, baggage claim, and customs was quick and easy. It was especially easy going into Pulkovo Dva; I was on the street 15 minutes after walking off the plane
